I agree that the iPhone isn't as fragile as some people think. I do use
a screen protector, but I use it to get tactile dots in key locations to
help with screen navigation.
I don't think screen protectors are primarily meant to keep your screen
clean but rather to keep it from getting scratched with things like keys
or other things in your pocket or purse.
Another thing cases are used for is to protect your phone when it's
dropped. I have a bumper on one of my phones because I got it as a gift,
but in general, I don't use cases on my smart phones or tablets. My wife
uses her phones a bit differently, so cases and screen protectors
definitely make sense for her.

The phone goes inside the defender case and the relatively thick plastic screen
cover is part of the case, it is not put onto the glass with an adhesive like
other, thinner screen protectors. There may not be actual air pockets, but by
nature it can never be as tight a fit and there will be a very small amount of
give. I just don't like screen protectors and couldn't care less if I touch my
phone with wet or dirty hands, if the screen is dirty I just wipe it clean
again. After all, it's just a piece of glass and you still have to wipe the
case/screen protector as well if it gets dirty.
Also, if you have a 6S or 6S Plus, these phones are highly water resistant even
though Apple doesn't draw a lot of attention to that. But when iFixIt did their
iPhone 6S and 6S Plus tear down, they discovered seals around the touch screen
and all buttons and ports. There are also Youtube videos and reports where
people put their iPhone 6S in a bowl of water for half an hour and the phone
was working fine afterwards. Would I do that, heck no, but it's good to know
that a few splashes of water or using your phone in the rain won't be an issue.
It is my guess that Apple will officially announce a standard of water
resistancy with the iPhone 7. I think a lot of people think the iPhone is way
more fragile than it really is.

Do the Otterbox defender cases really have air pockets, like a lot of people
seem to be saying, or is that just one person or two people that had a problem,
and now it's getting hyped way out of hand? The reason I want the screen
protector is because I often touch my phone with dirty hands.
Thanks,
Ari

Hi Fazil,
I have an Otterbox Defender case as well (which I never use any more), but the
first thing I did was to punch out the screen protector. The Otterbox Defender
has such a big edge that even if the phone falls touchscreen down, it is
extremely unlikely that the screen ever touches the ground and I just don't
like screen protectors. The screen protector is glued in and if you start at
one corner, it is not too hard to get it off. It is of course anybody's choice,
I am not that worried about my screen since it is made from extremely hard
glass. I have had the iPhone 4, 4S, 5S and now the 6S and I have dropped any
one of them many times without screen protector and never had a problem.

I had a little problem with Otterbox Commuter when I had it for my IPhone6Plus.
Power button was getting pushed frequently with just the accidental touch of my
finger.
So, I replaced it with Otterbox Defender. Defender does not have that problem,
however, its screen protector does not snugly flush with the screen and leaves
some air-pockets here and there, thus you have to tap very hard at times.
HTH.

Otterbox Defender, Griffin Survivor, Otterbox Commuter all spring to mind at
the heavy or more robust end; but this is mostly personal taste.

Hello all,
Can iPhone 6S owners tell us which iPhone case you use to protect this
expensive and valuable device?
Thanks!
