Adapters often get misplaced, I recall needing one for a larger to small jack
in the past, then needing the earphones for another unit and how many times we
had to look for that adapter, in the bottom of my purse, in a drawer, on the
headboard of the bed, bought three of them from RadioShack and still often when
we needed one we had to search all over.

As mentioned in previous post also had problems when a cord for a Dictaphone
transcription machine was pulled off the desk and chewed by a dog in the
household, nonstandard plug meant I could not substitute anything and it took
two weeks and a hefty price tag to replace them. Standards are there for a
reason!

Subject: Re: An iPhone Without a Headphone Jack: The Accessibility Ramifications

The jack is so archaic, but that’s just my opinion. Like I said in my previous
post, the advancements that could come with a switch to the lightning port are
enormous, but they could still offer an adaptor for people that want to use
normal headphones.

Lightning headphones are expensive, yes, but making a move right now gives
people to adapt to change, since it’s inevitable anyway, so we might as well
learn to adapt or stop complaining.

Precisely, they used to do these things, and consumer pressure caused a rethink

I agree with you Daniel. Furthermore, back in the days of non-smart phones
Nokia and possibly Ericsson as well had their own idea of what a headphone
jack should be and look like.

Hi,

I’m sorry if this sounds rude, but why, exactly is everyone so bent out of
shape about the no headphone jack rumor?

First off, we don’t even know if it’s going to happen, and second, if Apple
were going to do something that drastic, they’d surely think about all possible
scenarios before plunging ahead with such a move.

I personally would love to see a new approach to headphones, preferably one
that provides for better audio quality than what the current jacks limitations
due to it being analog can provide.

Hi Mary, AppleVis tend not to link to other sites within the blind community,
so I suspect that if I tried, it would just be removed.

But yes, their stoney silence on this is appalling.

Hi Jonathan,
I hope you have posted a link to this along with a summary perhaps, over at
Apple vis. I think you are correct that Apple vis should wake up and take
notice to this possible loss of a headphone jack. If this much of the
mainstream press is paying attention, why aren't they?

Hi everyone, since I posted the text of my blog entry last week, there's been
some great discussion here about what the removal of the headphone jack would
mean. I've also had a lot of private email and comments on this as well, and I
know dozens of you have completed Apple's feedback form. So thanks for having
your say.

Thanks to all this feedback, I was able to write a new blog post that I think
captures more of our concerns on this topic, and crystallises the issues
better. It's really long so I won't paste it here, but if this topic interests
you, you may like to take a look here.
