Not sure if my last message on this topic
actually made it to the list so here goes once more, with feeling. :)
Robin, I understand what you are saying here but
honestly, though Steve most certainly was of the
philosophy that to make sure you gave people
what they want, simply tell them what they want.
While this sounds incredibly obnoxious on the
surface, Steve demonstrated time and time again
that despite this outward image, he definitely
had his finger on the pulse of what people
actually would find helpful and useful in their day-to-day lives.
This in my opinion is why this sort of
philosophy worked for Steve but not for very many others.
Mostly people try to guess what people want or
to just assume that people want what they,
themselves, want. These attempts tend to have a
spectacular failure rate as we have seen.
Steve was not arbitrary in anything he did so
the products which came out of Apple were also
not arbitrary. Their design was for a reason,
and for the most part, I think there’s no denying that it worked well.
Now however, in my view, I feel that Apple is
acting as if Steve is still around and
displaying the kind of attitude that allowed.
The problem with this is that the kind of vision
which Steve lent to Apple’s innovations just
isn’t there. So in my opinion, you end up with
a lot of disconnected, arbitrary product
decisions which just don’t work together as well as they might.
This is of course, just my view, and I would
welcome differing ones here as well. If I am
wrong on this one, please, by all means, show me
how and I will gladly listen. In this case at
least, I would certainly love to be wrong. :)
Thanks for reading and please do have a lovely weekend / holiday season!
Cheers!

it's important to look at their source, and
whether they have a track record of accuracy.
We're seeing credible sources suggesting that
Apple may be holding an event in March to
launch the Apple Watch 2. Since the iPhone 6C
if it eventuates would be using the same chips
that are already being produced for iPhone 6s
and 6s Plus, it's not beyond the realms of
possibility that it will be launched then. If
there is to be an iPhone 6c, Apple won't want
it overshadowing the iPhone 7 announcements.
Those phones will of course be the current screen sizes.
> As for the headphone jack issue and your
comment that people are being bent out of shape
about it, again it's important to consider how
credible the source is. We know that Apple has
been thinking about the issue because they
patented their own proprietary headphone jack,
and then they introduced specs for made for
iPhone headphones that use the Lightning port.
As you say, there is a pair of headphones with
a Lightning connector in the Apple Store now.
for 800 bucks. And the rumour has been deemed
credible enough to have been commented on
extensively by many respected technology news
sites, including Cult of Mac, 9 to 5 Mac, Apple
Insider, Beta News, CNet, and Mashable. Even CBS has picked it up.
> But there is one site remaining curiously and
ominously silent. What I find deeply
disappointing is that AppleVis has not said a
thing about a topic which could have an
enormous impact on the way blind people use
their iPhones. It's not just hearing impaired
people who will take a hit, but anyone who
wants to use their iPhone with minimal latency
and energy consumption, who appreciate being
able to charge their phones while they also
enjoy the privacy that the headphone jack
affords. There is an important and unique use
case here that Apple need to be made aware of
before it's too late, and for AppleVis to
remain silent when many other Apple blogs are
speaking out is a gross dereliction of duty in
my opinion. Why isn't this an AppleVis campaign
of the month? Staying silent on such an
important issue, when AppleVis could at least
be encouraging users to complete the feedback
form, is ostrich-like in the extreme. I think
it's time users held AppleVis to account for its silence on this.
