How often does it need charging? If you hardwire it, does the doorbell ring
even when the battery has drained? Which leads me to assume that when it is
hardwired the battery connects it to the wifi. So, the doorbell would work,
but you wouldn't have the ability to talk to the visitor. Am I understanding
that correctly? Is there a way to know when the battery is getting low?

Karen

Hi Esther,

You only have to loosen the two bottom screws a bit (don't take them out
completely), then push up the doorbell a bit and pull it out.

If you had an existing doorbell with a transformer you can hardwire the ring
doorbell which is what I did. Unfortunately when it gets really cold I still
have to charge it from time to time. In December we had a cold spell for over 2
weeks when it was always 0 Fahrenheit or less and down to -15 Fahrenheit
(between -18 and -28 Celsius) and the battery did not like that and even though
it was hardwired I had to recharge it.

Regards,

Sieghard

hi, Rick, I also have ring doorbell, and mine does route to the earpiece. Then
it seems to go through the speaker after a couple of seconds or so. I'm very
new at this myself, and any help anybody can provide would be certainly
appreciated. I do like the convenience of it, however, and I do like it's
concept. What I also want to know is The doorbell mechanism itself has four
screws in it, which houses the battery. I'm wondering if there is another
easier way to take this mechanism off when it's time to charge it. I also heard
about another device which can be put on the stick up camera, which
automatically charges the battery and you never have to charge the battery
again. I was looking on the Ring website and it was listed under, I believe,
accessories. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Esther

Hi. Have you had the issue where the audio is routed to the ear piece instead

It doesn’t dial your number, it is connected to your home WiFi and hence to the
internet, if somebody rings it goes to the Ring servers and a push notification
is sent out. For me it is almost instant, maybe a second or so delay. I highly
suggest you allow these push notifications to show on the lock screen, this way
you can double tap on it, you then have to unlock your phone (I use Touch Id so
it’s usually very quick) and then the Ring app automatically opens and goes to
the screen where you can see (if you can see) who is there, you have only three
buttons on that screen, End, Talk and another one which if you want to simply
start to listen live you have to tap. This screen is in landscape mode with the
home button to the right and this can’t be changed and it can sometimes be a
bit sluggish, but it works.

Sieghard

I'm considering the Ring Doorbell. Those of you who have it seem happy with
it. My question is: Do you find much of a delay from the time someone presses
the doorbell to when your phone rings. Does it actually dial your phone
number? or does it function as more of an intercom?

Thanks,

Karen P
