If it is hardwired you typically don’t ever have to charge it. The exception seems to be situations when it gets extremely cold as in maybe less than -5 or -10 Fahrenheit (-20 to -30) for at least a week or two. You can check the battery level in the app, when you double tap on the device itself Voiceover says “Battery” and if you swipe right once there is an unlabelled button. Double tap it and then swipe left back to Battery and it now gives you the battery percentage. I just did this and it’s been cold here again for almost a week (around 0 Fahrenheit at night and a bit warmer during the day) and I have now 24% battery left, I have not yet gotten a low battery warning, if it drops too low it will tell you. If it does need to be charged you have to use the special little screwdriver that comes with it (a normal screwdriver won’t work so it’s a bit harder for somebody to steel it), loosen two screws underneath and then push up a bit and pull the doorbell of the mount which is screwed to your wall beside the door. Then just bring it inside and plug it into a USB charger or your computer with a standard Micro USB cable.

If you hardwire it, does the doorbell ring even when the battery has drained? Which leads me to assume that when it is hardwired the battery connects it to the wifi. So, the doorbell would work, but you wouldn't have the ability to talk to the visitor. Am I understanding that correctly? Is there a way to know when the battery is getting low? If you had an existing doorbell with a transformer you can hardwire the ring doorbell which is what I did. Unfortunately when it gets really cold I still have to charge it from time to time. In December we had a cold spell for over 2 weeks when it was always 0 Fahrenheit or less and down to -15 Fahrenheit (between -18 and -28 Celsius) and the battery did not like that and even though it was hardwired I had to recharge it. Then it seems to go through the speaker after a couple of seconds or so. I'm very new at this myself, and any help anybody can provide would be certainly appreciated. I do like the convenience of it, however, and I do like it's concept. What I also want to know is The doorbell mechanism itself has four screws in it, which houses the battery. I'm wondering if there is another easier way to take this mechanism off when it's time to charge it. I also heard about another device which can be put on the stick up camera, which automatically charges the battery and you never have to charge the battery again. I was looking on the Ring website and it was listed under, I believe, accessories. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Esther Sent From Esther's Amazing and Awesome iPhone 7+! For me it is almost instant, maybe a second or so delay. I highly suggest you allow these push notifications to show on the lock screen, this way you can double tap on it, you then have to unlock your phone (I use Touch Id so it’s usually very quick) and then the Ring app automatically opens and goes to the screen where you can see (if you can see) who is there, you have only three buttons on that screen, End, Talk and another one which if you want to simply start to listen live you have to tap. This screen is in landscape mode with the home button to the right and this can’t be changed and it can sometimes be a bit sluggish, but it works. Those of you who have it seem happy with it. My question is: Do you find much of a delay from the time someone presses the doorbell to when your phone rings. Does it actually dial your phone number? or does it function as more of an intercom?
