True, but separate the necessary input and mark it such, and the would.like 
info which is or should be optional.  When someone comes to do a deal, they 
don't want to be side.tracked. Not upsetting the customer is good practice 
too.

I assume you are not a business person, this information is not arrogance or
desperation, but simply a valueable way to find out what kind of advertising
works and it helps to determine where to focus one's advertising on. If, for
example they attend a bunch of accessibility shows and list this as an
option, but 90% of the answers are "Froma friend" or "By word of mouth"
which could be another option, then why incur the expense to attend any
shows.

Just made a purchase from their site. I could not give them my money until I
filled in a field "where did you hear about us".

Smacks of desperation for recognition and arrogance over their customers. I
am highly disappointed what has previously been excellent experiences with
them has been soured with this petty control.
