Hello Eric: You placed another order with us back on January 10th (or someone with that same email address did,) and you filled in that information. Back then, you did not seem to have a problem with it. I wonder why this is all of a sudden such a huge problem, and why it has supposedly "soured excellent experiences with this petty control ?" to be fair, if you did have a problem with it at the time, we were not contacted directly by you to notify us of that fact. I apologize if you believe this to be a move by a company whose only interest is in being arrogant, and who is using its customer base to do their marketing for them. I can assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. This is a feature built into our cart. It's not something that you can take out, and, lots either fill it in with something useful or just put a random character into the space. There's nothing wrong with wanting to know as a business where people are hearing about your company or products. In fact, it's useful; it's how companies big and small get a feel for how they're doing on a marketing level. Really, unless you're talking about us to friends or associates, etc, answering that question on our cart is not doing any marketing for us at all. Personally, I've seen this feature built into a lot of shopping carts, and yes, you have to put something, anything into the space provided in order to continue. Meanwhile, I have contacted our shopping cart vendor, to determine whether or not this can be made to be an optional feature in order to accommodate you, or anyone else who might have a problem with it in the future. Nobody has in the year plus that we've been using this same shopping cart, but there's a first time for everything. Better to be safe than sorry, in my opinion anyway, as keeping our customers happy is our top priority. I'd like to avoid additional flamatory posts like this in a public forum if at all possible. Also, check your inbox. Once I saw this, I made sure you were contacted privately regarding this matter, and your order. Please do not hesitate to provide us with your feedback in future; we have a "contact us," page for that very purpose, and answer it even after business hours.
