Thanks so much, Tom.
I could tell I was selecting the mm/yyyy item, but did not know what to do
from there.
I really needed the GPS because I've been able to walk to my office for 30
years, and we are now being moved across campus!
Fortunately there is a shuttle service that will work, but I want to be
sure where I'm going while I ride it. Also when I get in better shape I
might be able to walk the 1.2-mile distance.

Hi Beverly,
Iÿÿve been through similar situations before, and I remember that the first
time or two it was very frustrating. If you ever have to do this again, be
aware that the month and year are ÿÿpicker itemsÿÿÿÿ, which bear a slight
resemblance to a list box with one major exception. To interact with the picker
item you first double-tap it, then you do a single-finger flick up or down
until the desired item is selected. Now hereÿÿs the important part: immediately
adjacent to the picker item (usually to the left) is a ÿÿDoneÿÿ button which
you must double-tap in oder to get the selection to stick. So, make your
picker selection, then flick left to the ÿÿDoneÿÿ button, double-tap and then
and only then can you move on to the next picker item, at which time you deal
with it in exactly the same way. It can be a pain when you first try it, but
once you get it down it becomes easier when you encounter similar controls.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Tom

Thank you, Anna.
Also thank you for your iPhone books; I have learned a great deal and would
recommend them to anyone!
I turned off voiceover and had my husband change the expiration date. It was
set to August. 2018 by default, and I guess that is why the two cards I entered
thought they were expiring soon.
The maps for nearby explorer are now downloading; all is well!
I wish I knew why I couldn't do it with voiceover; but in the interest of time
I got the job done.

Hi Beverly,
I would call Apple Accessibility. They can see what's on your screen and should
be able to help you update your expiration date. You can call them at

I am trying to purchase Nearby Explorer, based on the recommendation of many in
this group.
All goes well until I tap purchase.
I have purchased at least 5 other apps in the past without a problem.
But now I am asked to verify my billing method and. If I tap continue, I am
taken to settings; Beverly Wieland; iCloud, iTunes and App store.
Since my payment information always worked, I'm not sure what they want me to
do.
I enter the credit card number and security code. But the expiration date just
shows mm/yyyy and does not let me edit it.
When I tap save, I get an error that my card is expiring soon and asked if I
want to enter another card.
I don't really want to use another card, but tap okay anyway and get the same
screen I just filled out (again with no way to edit the expiration date).
The only difference this time is that I am using an iPhone 7 with the latest
iOS, 11.4.1; just updated yesterday.
My other apps were purchased using an iPhone 4S with iOS 9.
I use the iPhone with a Focus 14 blue Braille display, but this should not be a
factor in my problem.
I logged into:
https://appleid.apple.com
using my computer, and found that the expiration date for my card was
incorrect. I fixed it, but that does not help with this purchase.
In desperation I went into settings and changed my payment method to paypal. I
logged in successfully to make the purchase. But I was asked to receive and
enter a 6-digit code in order to verify my paypal account.
I received the code via a text message. But when I tried to enter it I heard
the sound indicating no place to type, even though the prompt said it was in
edit mode with insertion point at start.
I'm afraid this is going to be something no one has heard of. But I've been
struggling for hours and really need the app.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will try another card in the mean
time, but it is one I only use when a merchant does not take Discover.
Thanks much in advance,
Beverly Wieland
