Hi,
Just wanted to mention that actually now there is a theft and loss option
which one can integrate into Apple Care Plus with the newer phones. It is
under written by the same company that does so for various carriers in the
USA and actually for me turned out to be cheaper annually than it would have
been to get it separately through my carrier thus I integrated it into my
coverage.
Apple also now offers a monthly subscription to Apple Care for the newer
phones perhaps all models I'm not sure but that is another option to make
the financial hit easier to take.
I myself have always gotten the coverage as the investment into the device
is a significant one and I also appreciate the ability to be able to call
Apple with any questions I might have beyond the initial 60 days oar there
abouts. But to each their own. All must do that which best suits their
circumstances.

Just so you know, Apple Care Plus does not cover loss or theft.
It covers accidental damage I think twice, once for each of the two years,
but if your phone needs to be replaced that is also not free. I have no idea
how much it costs nowadays with the expensive phones like the XR or XS.
Gone are the days when Apple Care Plus was $79 or $99. The last time I had
Apple Care Plus was on my 6S Plus back in 2015. I lost that phone about 3
months after I got it when I was visiting my families ranch at Christmas
that year. I went for a walk up their driveway which is gravel and about
three quarters of a mile long. At the time it was of course covered in snow
since we are talking about northern British Columbia and the temperature was
minus 30 Celsius (about minus 22 Fahrenheit. When I got back home I realized
the phone wasn't in the chest pocket of my down parka. Trying to call it or
use Find my iPhone was useless because in these temperatures and without
being close to body heat the phone would have shut down in less than 5
minutes. Various members of my family spent about 10 hours searching without
luck. Fortunately I had my phone added to my homeowner's insurance as an
extra item with a 0 deductible. That only costs about $30 a year extra and
unlike Apple Care Plus it does cover loss or theft. The insurance paid the
full price for a new phone. About 4 months later after the snow was gone in
mid April my brother found the phone. I asked him to stick it in a bag of
rice and mail it to me, that took a few days and when it arrived I took it
out and plugged it in. At first nothing happened, but to my surprise when I
checked it an hour or so later Voiceover came right up, I could unlock it
with my PIN and as soon as I did it started dinging and making all sorts of
noises as it connected to my WiFi and 4 months worth of emails, messages and
notifications went off. In the end I realized that the phone worked
perfectly fine with two exceptions: the screen was black in other words it
somehow didn't work any more even though I could do anything using
Voiceover. And yes, I did of course check if the screen curtain was on and
it was not. The second issue was that the camera did not work any more. Now
that I had the physical phone back I took it to an Apple Store and after
paying $129.99 Canadian they replaced it with a new phone.
Quite a few people on this list who have been here for a few years heard the
story before, but I recounted it just to make the point that just the cost
of Apple Care Plus does not cover a phone replacement. Given how expensive
Apple Care Plus has become I am no longer buying it. Water damage is almost
impossible nowadays with an iPhone 8 or anything above it because the phones
are virtually waterproof and the X series phones even more so than the 8 and
the 8 is more waterproof than the 7. I much rather spend the money to have
the phone covered through my homeowner's insurance, it's cheaper and it will
cover loss or theft.
Regards,
Sieghard

Apple Care is maintenance insurance on an Apple phone.

Hi,
Well I'm not that much into Apple stuff. I just have an iPod Touch. Also
I've really never heard about such AppleCare.
It may have another name on my country and as I'm not that Apple expert,
don't know.
However, from what I've heard on the lists I am on, when you call the Apple
Support they say that if you use whatever accessibility feature you don't
need AppleCare to be answered.
I'm sure it won't help almost in any way, but if you find use for at least
one of the words I wrote I'll be glad :)
Cheers,
Marcio

Hi,
I have always routinely purchased AppleCare, but have never really had any
reason to use it.
I still have a few weeks before the deadline for purchasing AppleCare for my
XS.
I’m curious how others on this list are viewing AppleCare.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Best, Keith
