I use my 11 pro max with face id at night and no lights and it works fine for me.
As I've said before You really need to go to a local store and have them demonstrate the different phones to you so you can both feel them for size / feel, And also get them to turn voiceoer on and let you see how each phone works either with or without the home button, The no home button isn't to me harder or easier, It's just a different way of thinking and therefore using the phone.
