The reasons I do not rely on Apple Maps are twofold: firstly, I find that while tracking information can be spoken by VoiceOver automatically, it's somewhat inconsistent in comparison to other apps. An example of a publically available app which for me tracks more reliably is BlindSquare. I also admire the fact that you can explore the map with VoiceOver, but find that it's very difficult to use this in practice particularly as holding your finger on a street for longer than a split second will change the zoom settings since VO thinks you want to follow that street.
