It's not even a half inch thick.

Hi again,

If you have to scan printed materials and depend on the best possible
results then Yes, the Standscan would be an additional item you would bring
along. However, it's only a big larger than a sheet of paper and folds very
flat, I don't have mine yet, so I can't say exactly if it is an inch or an
inch and a half, but at less than 250 grams it weighs about as much as 2
iPhone Fives and it wouldn't take much space in a backpack or briefcase.

Regards,

Sieghard

Is this then just one more thing one has to carry around in a crowded
backpack? I like travelling light.

It's not a scanner. It's basically a box that you place your iPhone on top,
and your reading material underneath. You use an OCR app like Prizmo to scan
your paper copy and the box holds the phone in just the right position to
assist in getting a good scan. The box also has an LED to make sure that
there is enough light. It can be run off of a 9 volt battery, 8 AA
batteries, or an AC adapter. It's simply a device to help a blind person to
get better scanning results, but it is not a scanner.

Hi,

Does StandScan work only with single-page documents lying flat, or is image
quality still good for scanning with items thicker, such as a DVD case or
box of frozen food?

Any chance it can image for scanning an opened paperback book?

Thanks in advance. Keith
