Samantha sort of grows on you, wish she would cut down on the cigarettes,
though! Read2go voice, Heather does not bother me that much, except for
pauses where pauses don't need to be but I use it often. I have Voice Dream
on the phone but honestly I did not notice all that much difference in the
voice quality compared to read2go but have to admit I have not used it
often.

I still wish they would hurry up with the NLS app, for some reason using
iBooks, Kindle and Read2go are more difficult to stop when necessary, my
earphone don't stop them, just end up starting music or the last audible
book I was in. Since I am often away from home, Audible loves me, I
generally end up giving them a bit more each month because unless I buy
extra credits I am out most of the time. I must say I have read some really
good books from there in the past two years, however.

Rose, my first choice for listening pleasure would be human speech as well.
If that isn't possible, then I'd rather use Samantha. I have the Read2go
app from Bookshare.org but I don't like their voices. To many mispronounced
words, and before I get an avalanche of replies, that's just my opinion.
Yours may vary.

Since I have spent much time in doctor's offices and waiting rooms, hospital
rooms labs etc, I certainly am looking forward to this app and yes, I have
been considering either an iPod touch or iPad mini but so far I have not
done either. I spend a lot of time reading Audible books while I wait am
almost never with credits because of that and have a ton of NLS stuff I want
to read but I don't want to carry a phone and a Stream with me, my purse is
heavy enough with all the paper work, extra wallet, keys and other junk that
gets dumped in there during my husband's hospital stays. Being able to put
NLS on there would be nice. I have Kindle and iBooks and Bookshare but,
when in noisy places I prefer human narration.

Hi Christopher and John,

Many on this list who take full advantage of all the wonderful features and
capabilities of the iPhone forget that there are still a lot of people out
there who are blind or visually impaired and who either don't want or don't
need a smartphone which comes with half a mortgage in the form of an
expensive monthly plan.

For me the Stream or Booksense both of which I owned at one point also don't
have any attraction anymore and instead of spending $300 or $350 or whatever
these devices cost nowadays on one of these I'd much rather buy an iPod
Touch or iPad Mini as a companion device for my iPhone. But, as I said, a
lot of blind people are perfectly happy with a Stream or Booksense and I
would imagine it will be quite a while yet before such specialty devices
become obsolete. Oh, maybe a Stream or Booksense doesn't have much to do
with an iPhone, but I think it's OK to discuss them in the context of
services like NLS and I guess if Raul or Cara don't agree they will let us
know.

Regards,
Sieghard
