Nuance also has blind employees. I'm blind, and I prefer the HQ voices. I find them a bit crisper and clearer.
I'm not saying people don't have a legitimate complaint about the HQ voices, but I think a lot of it is what you get used to. For example, I just switched from Eloquence to eSpeak on my PC's. It took a while, but I'm now comfortable with eSpeak. I remember the transition over the years from the Echo PC to the Accent SA to Keynote Gold to the DECTalk Express and then into the software synthesizers like Eloquence and now eSpeak.
