Hi,

Just to be clear, it's not only the fact that apps are downloaded from the App
Store which makes iOS more secure, though that is one facet of the iPHone's
security.

Not only are apps sandboxed no matter where they come from, but in order for
any code to run on a non-jail-broken iDevice, there needs to be a combination
of personal information coupled with specific device information linked with
the app itself which you are trying to run. If this exact combination of
information is not present iOS will not let the app run.

So the idea of an app being able to run without your knowledge is really a
nonissue on iOS at this point. Though I sure won't use the word impossible, :)
the only real malware I've heard of so far needs to be delivered physically to
the device when it is connected to a fake charging dock. So acquiring a virus
from email or the web would be very surprising to say the least right now.

Hope this helps and have a lovely night!

Cara :)

Yes, you can get viruses on Android phones and jail broken iPhones. Your
chances of getting any malware on an unjail broken iPhone is pretty remote
though. IOS itself isn't necessarily secure but given the limited way you can
get applications and content onto your iPhone and the fact that Apple gets
reported malware out of the App Store pretty quickly, makes the iPhone pretty
safe.
