Ok, to be specific, in the past three years, there have been exactly five malware apps which made it onto the iPhone. None of these apps remained in the App Store for more than 3 days. There have been significantly over a thousand malware apps on the Google Play Store, several of which are currently available.
As for viruses, there has not yet been a successful virus spread across iPhones that are not jailbroken. Android, and jailbroken iOS have been successfully hit by viruses multiple times. According to the latest metrics I have read, iOS and Windows Phone are the safest platforms.
