Rose,

My first laserprinter was an HP Laserjet 4 which I bought in 1991 for around
$1,100. I had that thing for about 12 years. Of course it printed only 4 pages
per minute which at the time was blazing fast and now is a joke with $200
printers doing 20 or 25 pages per minute, but you can’t of course compare
printers from 20 years ago with today’s printers. I have rarely had issues with
reliability with all the HP printers I have ever bought except for that one
cheapo I mentioned. Of course anything below $250 or $300 is a throw-away if it
doesn’t work after the warranty period because it is simply not worth spending
a bunch of money to send it in and then get a $150 bill for repair or more
likely get a message back that it can’t be repaired. I find it very interesting
how a lot of large corporations HP included advertise how
“green” they are, but especially all the cheap printers nowadays are throw-away
products which contribute hugely to what goes into our landfills.

Regards,

Sieghard

It seems odd to think of a Laser printer being small and less than $800. I
bought one in 1987 to use for a doctor’s office account I had been doing on a
Daisywheel . It was huge, expensive and I think I may still have a drum for it
somewhere in a closet. I think, but am not sure that it was an Epson, anyway,
after the doctor decided we were superfluous, seldom used it and it could be
hidden here or not, I don’t know.

I just know it was not doing a wonderful job last time I used it.

You would need to know, every printer we ever owned from 1981 forward seems to
know when I want it and refuses to work.

I think Brother makes some fairly inexpensive LaserJet printers that are
airplay-capable. From what I read, they also take up a very small footprint.
Whatever you do, I would recommend getting a LaserJet over an inkjet, as they
are much less wasteful in regards to toner versus ink use. Also, laserjets
print faster, and some of them can even do dual-sided printing.

Thanks,

Ari

I may need a new printer/scanner, What do I need to look for to be able to
print from an iPhone 6, I see lots of wireless printers but am not sure what
would work with everything. My HP seems to be on strike, it works only when it
wants to work and recently not at all.
