While I understand the arguments, I prefer the old "*" for the default net machine. I'm involved with a number of images which use a different userid for rscs. A "sp prt RSCS" on those images results in an error and the printer remaining routed "for <userid>". Subsequent print operations send output to the user's print queue and the naïve user doesn't know what to do with it, if they even realize what happened to it when it fails to print. At least with the default of "*" it ends up visible (to rdrlist) in their rdr queue.
