Just to clarify, I was thinking of something to explain the sulfur smell in ball lightning; 36Cl is another possible source for this, perhaps from salt found in soil. If beta decay is involved, presumably there could be other beta emitters as well. I have no idea if Mills's setup is generating precisely what goes on in ball lightning, or is generating something analogous, or is doing something entirely different. Eric
