We have a problem agreeing on what is real. If we cannot agree on what is real it is unlikely that we are ever going to get a better grip on what constitutes an authentic alien... whatever that might be. The fact that there is so much disagreement on "what is real" is not anybody's fault. It's part of the process we go through as we continue exploring our environment and ourselves.
