There is no doubt the threat is real - but from there on, we have to wonder about the appropriate response. is there one, or is it hopeless? . or is there to be a secret response by those who want to be in control, the next time around. The political right distrusts this bunch almost as much, if not more, than does the left (and correctly . because, in the end it will be dog-eat-dog). Some would opine that the ultimate aim of the top dogs (with accurate knowledge of a coming catastrophe) is to "divide and conquer" . perhaps by making the threat appear to be fanciful or ludicrous now, so that precautions will be delayed. The alterative is that there really is a high level appreciation that Earth is essentially doomed no matter what is done (in both the top echelons of Russia and the USA), so the think-tank "agenda" shifts to how best to emerge from the aftermath of a "depopulation event" in a more sustainable if not dominant position? It just gets curiouser and curiouser. .but in the abstract, few "experts" would doubt that Earth in 2121 with 3 billion inhabitants is more sustainable, for the long run, than Earth with 9 billion.
