Growing up in Alaska my dad always packed a gun (usally a rifle) when we were out
fishing but it was more for protection from moose and bear. Unless I was fishing up
where there was something that could possibly eat me I would not pack one. Too much
room for something to go wrong when you have a firearm. Whether it be accidently
shooting yourself , shooting someone else , or somebody getting the gun from you and
shooting you. I grew up amateur boxing and feel I am more than capable of protecting
myself. Also I have a tire iron in the trunk if things really got out of hand.

And realistically I am more than happy to hand over my gear to someone if I feel my
life is in danger. Has not happened yet and hope it does not but I feel firerams are
not really the answer.

Maybe a canister a mace though...
