One of the best hot melt glues for tip-tops is called "Ferr-L-Tite" by Bohning. A lot of bamboo rod makers use this to attach ferrules. I believe you can buy it at Archery shops - they use it to attach metal heads to arrow shafts. Gudebrod ferrule cement sticks are available in many tackle shops, and also do the job well.

With epoxy, it can be very difficult to remove a broken or worn tip-top that needs replacing.

You can use glue gun glue, but quite frankly its the melting point that is the
big deal. You want to remove the tip without melting the blank. The amber
stuff meets that test, so does 5 minute epoxy, which is commonly used in the
rod building trade.
