I can't say I've had any general quality problems with Gracenote
errors. However, from the variation with some discs, I infer that many
entries are "user contributed"/ So, the quality may vary according to
what music you buy and what type of other people bought that music and
contributed titles, etc. This also means that you can contribute your
own high-quality titles back to Gracenote, I think (see iTunes'
"Advanced" menu).

Also, I don't quite understand your comments about Disk#, Year and
Comment --- I seem to be able to change them freely.

If you wish to flush out bad CDDB data, you could move your "Home >
Library > Preferences > CD Info.cddb" file to the Trash.

You can also stop iTunes using Gracenote on a case-by-case basis by
pressing the "Stop" button (either in the pop-up dialogue or via the
"X within a circle" in iTunes --- whichever one is relevant to you).
Or, you can turn off your "automatically connect to the Internet"
option (whereever that is --- maybe Network Preferences).

On a more dead-end note: I do not know where iTunes' Gracenote
preferences have gone. I'm sure there used to be an option where you
could chose whether CDDB was used automatically or not. Sigh.

James.
