Hi Michael I feel your pain. And I've been pain-free for some time now ;) I too would suggest Amnet as an alternative, having transferred to them after some very poor 'service' from Westnet. Westnet does indeed seem to have assumed very much of the iiNet ethos. I had dealings with iiNet some years ago. Westnet departments appear to know nothing of other departments' business and are quite cavalier about offering inaccurate or inappropriate advice. Tech support with Westnet, from my experiences was very much tied to a 'quick fix'; if that failed it was, clearly, not an issue to be dealt with by them; not their responsibility; your problem - you probably caused it, after all! Even if that was true… But they did want instant feedback on the quality of their service. You knew all about that of course because you listen to interminable recitations of the virtues of Westnet while you wait in their phone queues.
The interesting thing was that, although I transferred from Westnet to Amnet, part of a problem I had been trying to resolve transferred with me and was eventually traced to 'oversensitive' settings on the modem provided by Westnet. (The issue also caused apparent 'dropouts' although more accurately they were 'lockouts' by the modem. A connection to the exchange and the ISP was, in fact, maintained). To be fair, Amnet didn't find the solution either but they were certainly prepared to go further to investigate and follow up results and different departments are aware of each other's responsibilities and functions - it's like they talk to each other! The final compelling decision to move from Westnet came when Westnet summarily removed access to a static IP address while we were trying to resolve an issue concerning access to personal webspace that was supposed to be an entitlement of the account. They weren't able to sort out the webspace access (ie: they couldn't actually make it happen technically!) and in a thoroughly bizarre exchange I was told I needed to swap to another type of account that turned out to be precisely the account I already had. I tried to explain this but ended doing what I was told - it was quite ineffectual, of course. When, later, a 'consultant' suggested I move to an ISP who could supply a comparable service to Westnet, IF I could find one, I was able to do just that; more cheaply in fact with one of Amnet's very basic accounts. peter meyer [email protected] 0408 902 349 On 10/06/2011, at 12:57 PM, Michael Hawkins wrote: > Until recently I had always received an invoice on the 1st and a receipt a > few days later. > Two months ago I received an invoice but no receipt.
