Hi Ronni

Things are very peculiar. Came (partly) good during testing.

On both Macs, Network Proxies for both Ethernet and WiFi have no "Protocols to
configure" boxes checked. But both have "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" ticked,
and the field for "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains:" has
*.local, 169.254/16 entered. Should I NOT have PASV checked?

1Password is the only Extension installed (on both Macs), so it can be checked
easily.

Previous experience with old Mac (following the Safari diagnostic guide) and
deleting all Website Data (cookies, caches etc) gave just temporary relief,
probably coincidental, to the problem website (BankWest at that time) but
caused lots of anguish with lost helpful data for other sites. I've avoided
that step since! Have not done this tonight as I didn't get past step 1 on
your list.

First thing I did tonight was to attempt SBS access from the main Mac - no go
(so it hadn't come good with a rest). Then I tested the older second Mac
which has the same OS 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4 as the new main Mac.

Old Mac had essentially an empty cookie file (Prefs-Privacy) with no reference
to SBS. Safari is little used - just homepage of ABC news, then Wikipedia and
not much else for last 3-4 months. Consequently I expected slow webpage
loading so I tried a couple of random sites that I have bookmarked to get a
feel for time taken to load (they were a few seconds generally). Then tried
www.sbs.com.au on Safari with all existing preference settings (and latest
Flash Player). It appeared to hang so I left it to see what would happen.
Watched for 5 minutes then went to make coffee. Returned a few minutes later
to find some data on screen: part of the webpage banner image and then the menu
tab items and language choices listed vertically as links. Left it for
another 10 minutes but no change. Escaped, closed Safari and tried again.
This time Safari timed out after 1 minute with the message that Safari can't
open because website not responding.

Tried Firefox on old Mac. Partial load after 5 minutes with graphics of banner
and webpage header (down to the menu tabs) Nothing more for the next 10
minutes.

Back to Safari on old Mac. Got the text list display after 1 minute but no
images.

** Tried Safari on NEW Mac - website opened properly with full graphics
display! No delay.

Tried again on old Mac with Safari: hung again with partial loading at 5
minutes.

What now? Two hours later, the new Mac still successfully loads the SBS home
page.

Previous experience suggests I will have no problems with accessing the SBS
website for the next few days from the new Mac. I hadn't got round to trying
FireFox on the new Mac. But the partial access from the old Mac is puzzling -
I can look at that again tomorrow.

I think I will just have to wait for SBS access to fail again. I can then
carry on with your list - Safe Mode, etc. But it does seem that the problem is
not machine specific or even Safari specific. It is very strange that the new
Mac is starting to show the same symptons I had with the old Mac and BankWest.
It seems that SBS is trying to download something that my Belkin modem, Time
Capsule, and Mac does not like. Would the Firewall settings have any bearing
here? The new Mac (February 2013) had a fresh install of apps and data. Did
not use Migration Assistant.

I had completely forgotten about testing SBS access from the iPad. Something
else to add to the checklist for next time.

Thanks for your help and guidance so far. I hope the problem can be resolved
with clear causes found!

Cheers
Alan
