Hi Ronni, thanks, well I am trying now to erase the iPad but I get into a 
vicious circle I can't seem to get out of - which probably explains the 
iMessages problem I'm having anyway. So if I break the loop I'm in then the 
problem will probably solve itself. 

Anyway, I can't erase because to do that requires an AppleID login on the iPad 
and response from the iPad is "Verification Failed, There was an error 
connecting to the Apple ID server". So Find my iPad cannot be turned off and 
hence I cannot do an "Erase all content and settings". 

Not sure how else I can do this, I suppose I could call Apple support for help 
there and some Googling on "Verification Failed" to see what to do.
