Thanks John -

Sounds like I need to set aside some time to get Apache going. If I can get
Apache working, then I won't need to upgrade to XP Pro as there is nothing
else I need -- at least that I know of at the moment. Maybe this would be
more of a permanent solution that I originally thought.

Thanks for the encouragement -- looks a good job for this weekend!

Janet

Janet

I have apache on Window 98 and it works a dream. The caveat being I don't
know how happy it is on later versions of windows.

As far as you're concerned the only thing you need working straight away is
server side includes. These may or may not be already enabled, but if not
you can edit the httpd.conf file (You should be able to find in it via
Start > Programs > Apache) to enable them. If you search Google for
something like "enabling ssi on apache" you should get dozens of pages
that'll show you how to make the changes you need to make. They are only
one liners, really nothing to be frightened of :-)

As I said in the last mail you can pick everything else up as you go along.
There is stacks of stuff with apache, but if your not interested in using
it you need never know about it. By the same token if there is something
complex in the live server environment you want mimic locally, the odds are
apache should be up to the job.
