| Worst case? The end of civilzation as we know it.

That was tongue in cheek... right? Right? Stop that, I'm paranoid by
nature. ;}

I was wondering... does anyone happen to know of a site that lists exactly
what will be affected?

|A water utility here just ran a model on what was going to happen with
| their purification system in 2K. Know what they found...the system was
| going to dump their entire stockpile of toxic chemicals into the water
| supply all in one go...
|
| Y2K problems extend somewhat farther than just computer systesm.

Gah!

Not quite sure what to say, so I think I'll say it again. Gah!

*Williams, Mullen, Christian and Dobbins seems to have helped create a Y2K
site <http://www.y2k.com> giving a lot of food for thought about legal and
management information. They list Yahoo
<http://headlines.yahoo.com/Full_Coverage/Tech/Year_2000_Problem/> as a
link to other information about this problem.

There also is the huge Y2K FAQ updated on May 5, 1998
<ftp://www.year2000.com/pub/year2000/y2kfaq.txt> written by Robert J.
Sandler, and Peter de Jager, of Year2000.Com <http://www.year2000.com/>. On
a sidenote, Peter de Jager, who seems to be an official spokesperson about
the Y2K problem. He seems to have had something called "Project Damocles"
which talked about all embedded systems... then he killed the project
<http://www.year2000.com/archive/NFdemise.html>.

This FAQ is -huge-! Talks about Year 2000 problem, year 1999 problem, lots
of different OSs, software products, credit cards, etc. Whew!

What may be effected?

Hehe! "Also, the central bank will provide plenty of cash for those
skeptical citizens who prefer to withdraw their money from the bank and
save it under the mattress as the new millennium looms, they added."

* The Federal Reserve
<http://www.wired.com/news/news/business/story/12203.html>... Ulp!
Mentioned that the biggest concern is " telecommunications and electrical
utilities".

The Washington Post 05/08/98
<http://search.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/WAPO/19980508/V000943-050898-idx.ht
ml> mentions that the House Ways and Means oversight subcommittee noted
that:

* Social Security: 90% vital systems done
* Department of Human Services: 40% ... but problems with Medicare systems

Let's see... what utilities will be working, close to (my) home...

Phone System:
* March 1998: Bell Atlantic in their 1997 Annual report mention about Y2K
"We expect to complete the major portion of our internal date remediation
activity in 1998."
<http://www.bell-atl.com/invest/fininfo/annual97/discuss4.htm > ... but in
their FAQ they state "We started addressing this challenge three years ago,
and plan to have our network year 2000 compliant by the end of the first
half of 1999." <http://www.bell-atl.com/about/faqs_main.htm >

* Bell Atlantic Network Integration (BANI), a subsidiary of Bell Atlantic
Corp. (NYSE:BEL), today introduced a solution that can save corporate
networks from collapsing when the clock turns over to the year 2000.
November of 1997:
< http://www.ba.com/nr/1997/Nov/19971104002.html> Also gives price
estimates what they charge for Y2K.

Money:
* BankBoston seems to be working on it, with even a Y2K "hotline" 1-888
number you can call, listed at
<http://www.bankboston.com/today/about/bug.html>

 * "The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) today
announced that BankBoston has earned ITAA* 2000 certification" Sept. 22,

Electricity:
Hrm... Boston Edison has a lot of information... but no info on Y2K
