You're right; that was tongue in cheek.
I think companies like the banks and telecoms are well prepared as are
probably most of the other clearly defined risk areas. The water utility I
mentioned found out what was likely to happen by running models now with
the result that it isn't going to happen.
But for all those high-profile companies that are Y2K ready, there are
thousands of small companies that haven't even started to think about it
yet. And hundreds or thousands of small businesses failing at roughly the
same time all over the developed world is sure to impact on the global
economy to some degree or another.
And you know what scares me, no matter what people say? I'm concerned about
the software driving the computers that control all the nuclear weapons and
power stations throughout the former soviet republics. You really think
they've devoted the necessary resources to ensure that nothing's going to
fall over?
Jeez, I hope Rich is write and there really is nothing to worry about.
Doesn't stop me thinking about it, tho...
