Worst case? The end of civilzation as we know it.

I'll be right out of securities, except for certain computer companies
whose expertise will suddenly be in huge demand. Forget paper currency.
My money's going into gold and real estate next year.

The problems really isn't so much with computers - at least if you have
a recent PC - but with embedded chips. There's not much you can do to
make the processor in, say, your car Y2K compliant. Which might simply
mean your car won't start after Dec 99. Then think of everything else
that has an embedded chip that might be carrying a 2 digit date. Your
camera, air conditioner, microwave overn, traffic control systems, water
fluoridation plants, nuclear power stations, etc. etc.

A water utility here just ran a model on what was going to happen with
their purification system in 2K. Know what they found...the system was
going to dump their entire stockpile of toxic chemicals into the water
supply all in one go...

Y2K problems extend somewhat farther than just computer systesm.

But you can wake up after watching one of those and everything is back
the way it was . . .
