For whatever reason, I've had really good luck importing sites into FP '98.
Actually, I've found it to be an awesome tool for the web site re-location
jobs we do for new customers. It saves a ton of time.

Fairly regularly we'll sign up a customer for web hosting who is very
nervous about moving their whole site over. Often they are new webmasters
taking over the job from someone else. They don't want to deal with site
downtime, an enormous upload to their new site with us, or having to deal
with broken links, etc. We offer to do the job for them as part of the set
up of their new hosting account. Using FrontPage's Explorer you can
literally suck an entire site up like a vacuum cleaner and drop it on a new
server. We can transplant a site in less than 5 minutes flat, check for
broken links, etc.

I can see your point, writing and programming/coding are two different
skill sets. The only comment I have is that it's not unreasonable to
expect a "writer" to know how to use MS Word or a comparable word processor
software. As one of the primary tech support people at my company I can
tell you first hand that if a user knows Word, we can walk them through the
essentials of FrontPage in less than 10 minutes over the phone.

I totally agree on the extra code. Frankly that's the thing I dislike most
about FP. I'm hoping that enough of us FP users have griped about this
that Microsoft will clean up their .html in the next rev. In my own
experience, while the extra code is useless, it is fully functional and is
one of the trade-offs in using the product.

Now that you mention it, agreed. :)

Oops. Sorry, got carried away. Speaking of Microsoft - I'm on my way out
the door to go to the CompUSA/Windows '98 midnight sale! Yippee! No - I'm
not going to buy '98 (I'll order an NFR from our supplier in a few weeks
perhaps). Also, the $98 computer is a lost cause. I was at our local
CompUSA around 7pm CST tonight and there were about 50 people in line
already - some of whom had been there since 11am and they're only selling
10 per store. I'm going to pick up a couple of their other advertised
midnight specials - specifically a 15" monitor for $98 bucks. Wish me
luck. ;)
