Hi,
I use AOL for reasons I have already outlined in this group. I can preview
the messages I get and delete the ones I'm not interested in. Also, I read
and post in some newsgroups, like Paint Shop Pro, and when I get spam I can
delete it without downloading here. Maybe I can do that with Outlook 98, but
I don't know how.
By this group's standards, I am a rank novice because I can't do all the
database driven web stuff -- yet. I rarely post because I know my questions
seem stupid to most of you or they've been discussed before and I don't want
to waste anyone's time. I've gone to ZDU and webmonkey.com to learn about CSS
and JavaScript and more, and because of this group I know more about such
resources. I will be eternally grateful.
I keep hanging around because many here have been great to me, offering advice
while I contribute little if anything. I don't feel compelled to list all my
URLs (even my own) here unless I want feedback; I haven't considered it
necessary for the sake of "belonging." I do feel like part of the "family,"
in some ways, but I don't always feel like I am quite as "good" as some in the
group.
As far as the original post, the caps only got to me a little. I didn't do
everything right for a long time after I first dialed in. Likely I still
don't, so I try to give people some room to grow. The only thing that I
really noticed was the screen name of Typsy, but as soon as I learned that the
poster had other e-mails, I quit worrying about it.
I guess the point of my post is to say that while I have a pretty darn thick
skin as far as taking offense from anonymous faces in print I've met on the
web, some of the postings on this thread have made me flinch in something like
pain.
