Thanks Mike, I needed a little morale boost about now... I'm up to my
neck learning various permutations of this newfangled DHTML stuff in order
to keep my current client happy (if it's bleeding edge, they want it, sigh),
and I've been enduring the occasional dark night of the soul as I wrassle
with new and unfamiliar techniques.

Anyway... you're spot on with your comments here. "Web design" has for
some time now been a multidisciplinary field, where no one person can
possibly be expert in every facet of professional site creation. So a little
humility and self-objectivity will go a long way in smoothing the career
waters for all of us. That and the willingness to say, "Look, this particular
task is just too complicated for me, can one of you guys help?"

On the other hand, I will sweat blood before conceding defeat and turning
to the list for help -- that's part innate pride and stubbornness, and
another part my awareness that the lessons I learn best are the ones that
I struggle over. So I will spend many hours trying to master some new
trick, digging deep into the Web for guidance, tinkering and experimenting,
until I either figure it out or admit defeat.

In the two years or so that I've been on WC, I've seen a consistent
willingness by list members to lend a generous helping hand to anyone, no
matter how inexperienced, who is making a sincere effort to learn (and
who parenthetically observes basic etiquette in their postings.) I wonder
if some newcomers realize just how much free wisdom and experience
they're tapping into here -- goodness, the more detailed replies from
people like Mike, Jack, Tamra, Kayla, Urb, George, Ronnie, Chad et al et al,
would be worth a hundred bucks an hour if you were to purchase them as
consulting services -- a little appreciation would be in order sometimes.

If I can add one final note on the (rather tired) netiquette thread: I object
to pseudonymous usernames on lists like this generally, just a personal
peeve of mine I suppose. When I'm proffering hard-won advice and
assistance to people, I like to have some rough idea who they are. So
poor ol' "typsy" strikes out yet again, in my books. I also find that
particular username offensive, as I have waged a 25-year battle against
alcoholism. I don't find anything amusing about being "typsy", or tipsy.

(And yes, I'm winning that battle for now. One day at a time.)
