I don't want to get into this battle, but I think it may pay to
discuss a little list netiquette, which can be found on many
sites. A good source of list netiquette can be found at Adam
Boettiger's site http://www.exposure-usa.com/lists/primer.html
In particular, look at Adam's "Don'ts" and "Do's"
As many know, I am on over 130 lists, moderate two lists and
participate often. I did some testing last year to see what
works and what doesn't. Some tips that seem to work:
1. Lurk for awhile before posting. It's like learning who the
players are in a company, and how the company operates.
2. When you post, don't shout (all caps) and first introduce yourself.
3. Don't jump into a thread as an "expert" without first stating
some credentials (but not a lot of self-promotion).
4. Limit your sig line to 6 lines.
5. Post only when you have something to contribute, and not
merely to get your sig line seen. (Unless you are bantering with somebody;-})
6. Ask questions to receive answers and get help, not merely to get posted.
7. Answer questions, only if you know the answer.
8. Don't cross-post to multiple lists, unless you tell the list
that you are doing so.
9. Be courteous and post in a positive manner.
Amazing how simple things seems to change the response from list members.
