My guess would be that a majority of those who don't know are probably
running 640x480. After all, that's the resolution generally in use by
machines that are a) older and b) using less installed RAM and VRAM -- and
it's my feeling that a LOT of folks out there are still using the same
machine config they were using 5 years ago.

Personally, I don't assume that MOST users are on 640x480, but I do assume
a healthy amount are; enough to make it figure into my site design
planning. I can't wait until this changes!

I might be mistaken here, but my understanding is that a WebTV screen maxes
out at 580 pixels wide.
When Digital TVs become more prevalent that will change, but current sets
still offer low res only.

I would think that the DVD crowd would be pretty solidly in the 800x600
camp, but I have no evidence to back this up.

I can change resolutions on my NT machine on the fly, but it helps a great
deal to reboot the browser, not the whole OS though.
