The "basics" to one person may be entirely different from "the basics" for
another person. I myself, in four years of consulting as a web developer,
have *never* registered a domain name. All the IPPs I work with prefer to
do it themselves, and don't charge for it. So I can easily understand how
someone could not know how to handle registering a domain name. As it
happens, I answered Roy's question off the list. He was very appreciative
and, I think, in an unusual situation in that he has no IPP to ask for help.
More importantly, the more active long-term members of this list have
traditionally tried to maintain a pleasant, open, helpful, and
non-discriminatory attitude towards anyone's questions. Nobody is all that
crazy about answering really basic HTML questions, but I must confess I've
asked one or two of those myself and have received cheerful, helpful
answers. In turn, I try to help anyone when my particular areas of
expertise come into play.
Let's not be so critical of other list members. If you consider a question
beneath you, just ignore it.
