I agree with all your points entirely.

I've been at this Web stuff for quite awhile -- full-time gig since 1995 -- 
and had a fairly strong computer and publishing background coming into it. 
 But it still happens at least monthly that I'll confront topics -- especially 
anything relating to Web servers and protocols themselves -- about which 
I discover I know absolutely nothing.  Though I may know quite a lot 
about other aspects.  None of us are world-class experts on every Web-
related subject: it's just not possible.  Too broad a field.

I'm also glad of any gentle reminders that we're all here on the *World* 
Wide Web, not some regional North American online service.  Access to 
modern hardware, cheap connections and reliable telco services are things 
those of us in the West largely take for granted, but it just ain't so for 
many other users in the world.

And if someone's first language isn't English, problems in phrasing can 
unfortunately make legitimate questions sound somewhat simple-minded, 
just because of their awkward execution; whereas old hands can ask their 
own "stupid questions" in a witty, self-deprecating way that will get 
sympathetic replies.
