Several people have mentioned this. We've been that route already, and the
PC ended up gathering dust on the closet floor. Neither of us is close
enough or has time enough to hold Dad's hand. I could only do it with a
Mac, and since he would be dialing up to a conventional ISP and I only know
about dialing up to a Mac ISP, I couldn't be of much help to him anyway.
And I would never curse him with a 68030 based Mac for Internet use. I
struggled with one for 3 years, and became convinced that Netscape, IE and
other programs these days are built with little concern towards backwards
compatibility. On our IIci's, with most extensions off, we were rarely able
to surf more than one or two pages at the time before experiencing a crash
necessitating a restart. Sure, I could pull one of the IIci's out of the
closet and inflict it upon Dad, but I'm not that cruel.
