agree with Peter on FTP client (cuteFTP) and Barry on e-mail (eudora). I
just set up the free version of eudora on a friend's win95 machine -- she
is a newbie and likes it. i use cuteFTP on all my win95 work.
Also use MSIE 3.x for checking explorer pages -- browserola is also an
option (since you can only run one version of MSIE). Suggest you have a
copy of Navigator 3.x as well as Communicator -- as they do sometimes
render 'good' code differently. Finally -- also get Opera. Remember - PCs
render type "larger" at the same point size as Macs -- so this head-to-head
comparison is good to have.
For PC editor -- get HomeSite -- it's about $100 and it's the closest thing
to BBEdit you'll find for the PC. CF Studio is "HomeSite on steriods" and I
don't see the need to get this much more expensive package unless you are
also building CF applications. There still is a freeware version of
HomeSite, but it's version 1.x and really rudimentary compared to 3.0.
