I would not put windows95 or 98. If going the windows route put
windows NT on it. You can get a copy for under US$100 at discounters.
I paid US$84 at a recent computer show.

Get Textpad or PFE. Textpad is very similar to BBedit from what I've
heard.

US$27.00

PFE is a good freeware editor. I have just become so used to Textpad
that I use it nearly exclusively.

I think Paint Shop Pro is the best poor mans equiv to Photoshop.

Also, where I work the designers have 2 monitors for each mac. One is
how a windows machine would view and the other is the mac. It is
quite interesting. They drag their mouse from one monitor to the
other and boom there it appears on the other monitor.

I would install the full-blown IE 4.0 that takes over everything. It
adds some features and it is the future in the windows world. It is
also better than the latest version of Netscape in my opinion.
Starts up quicker, quick page view via notepad. Of course a lot of
junky stuff but they both have it. IE 4.0 won't download files with
a .gz extension.

Note that you can order a bunch of CD's with a lot of free stuff and
demos from the MS website.

Next, get the powertools stuff. I don't know the url but they provide
you with a bunch of very convenient little features. The one I use
the most is "command prompt here" for any directory I get a dos
prompt.

I assume that the only reason you want windows is to see how the
prisonsers of Bill would view web pages. Otherwise I would go the
linux route. I am going to get a linux machine installed where I
work. If everyone starts to introduce linux where they work we can
begin to expand the envelope and reduce all the crying over so-called
lack of choice etc. etc.
