Yes, HTTP streaming works OK for small volumes of (also small) files.  
Probably best to test the waters that way before committing to a regular 
RealAudio server package.  The latter is seldom cheap.

There are various .mp3 rippers available for the Mac.  Check out mp3.com 
for a few:
