I have just recently started using Minerva. I've used a variety of
ISP/IPPs for about 5 years. Minerva is at the head of the list as far as
I'm concerned. They are highly professional and provide exceptional
support at great prices.
Alexander, there main support person, is very compenent and
responds very quickly. He is even available on ICQ. Recently had a
problem with IP-less virtual servers. He found the problem (a
misconfigured DNS server) and had everything working correctly within 24
hours. I was having a problem with Telneting into Minerva with one of my
dial up accounts. Alexander took the time to trace it down and explained
what had to be done, even though it was not a Minerva problem.
My only complaint is lack of detailed documentation on getting
started on their site. Every time you go to a new provider there are
differences. To illustrate, the Minerva CGI file protection scheme is
different that anywhere else I have seen and it's not described in any
documentation I could find.

When you download software from a remote server - on which you do
not have an account - you are using anonymous FTP. Behind the scenes,
your server actually send anonymous as your userID and your e-mail
address as a password. You access, usually read only, is limited to
those directories allowing anonymous FTP. On the other hand, if you FTP
to a site and enter your own userid and password you are using private FTP
and you can roam anywhere in you name space.
