ah ... i'm behind here. have they made another cut announcement? i'm on my
first day of holiday and haven't read the paper or listened to news today.
i'm a contractor -- and all contractors are under intense scrutiny. many
depts are just letting all of us go, with no analysis.
i've been asked back in january to do a non-web-related training project.
the program i'm working with has been somewhat exempt from the contractor
cuts because
a) the re-engineering effort (consolidation of business processes, single
source of product data, integrating computing systems, etc) is fundamental
to the company's being able to make $ long-term and
b) because it is an initiative, with definite start and end dates, the
company uses contractors to a higher % than in 'ongoing' operations. makes
sense.
of course, it's along time from now to 4 january -- my new project could be
on the block several times between now and then, and i might never know.
