I just have to share the problems I've had signing up for a perl class at
ZDU http://www.zdu.com/
I signed up for the "Free Trial" in December. I poked around the site and
decided I wanted to take a perl course. Before the trial expired, I signed
up for a paying account at $7.95/month. It took several days and an email
query before I received my new login/password.
I then tried to register for the course I was interested in, but discovered
my MSIE v4.01 browser was automatically logging me into the site using my
trial login/password and therefore I could not register for the course (I
could not access the login screen since the site said I was already logged
in!). In the MSIE Preferences section for passwords the ZDU password was
not even listed so that I could delete it! How annoying. I switched to
Netscape and avoided this problem (I had not used Netscape to access the
site before).
A few days ago I got my credit card statement and found that ZDU had
charged me _twice_ in December for the $7.95 fee. I have no idea why. I
asked them to credit me one of these charges (no response to this request
yet).
Today I got an email from them saying the perl class had been postponed 6
weeks! So now I'm paying the monthly charge for... nothing. I have asked
them to credit me all charges to date and not start charging me until the
class begins. If they don't do that I'm going to refuse to pay the charges,
period.
I've also already purchased the $27 book that goes with the course. If
necessary, I can return the book and refuse to pay the charge for that as
well.
I'll let you know what ZDU says to my request. But so far, I'm not
impressed with their services.
