Well... before they can navigate your site, they have to find you.
And to find you... you need to have meta description tags and titles that
offer answers to what people are looking for in the search engines.

Then you need to work those phrases into the header lines to get good
search engine position in the relevant queries.

Navigation can be handled by "navigation bars", strings of relevant
keywords across the top and bottom of the page. The top bar reassures
them that they can find other relevant information at your site, but I
suspect the bottom bar is the one they tend to use if they like the
information on your page.

A good site tends to use a spoke and wheel design, with peripheral
pages dealing with topical areas that the company's products are used in,
each page supplying some useful relevant information to people who might
use their products. That is the outer wheel. Further down the spoke,
might be more information on that use a specific product, leading into
core product areas where the more interested can get additional product
centered information (as opposed to use centered information,) and perhaps
place orders or find local dealers.

No matter how esthetically pleasing your site is, no matter how well
it answers the questions users have; first, your site must be found! And
to do that, you need to be under the words people use to search for
activities related to your products. (See

Once found and appreciated, a good informative page will be linked to
more and more sites. So good search engine position and good description
are essential to seed rapid traffic growth. After a while, that growth
will even out and begin to decline. On some pages I put up the year
before last, growth took three to five months, followed by seasonal
cycles, and eventual decline as other sites took up the ideas. (These
were not otherwise promoted pages.)
