Intel tried to use patented socket and packaging technology to force
vendors to use their chips. That was one step too far. There were, from
what I hear, other steps they took to try to force Intel-Only approaches
onto board vendors.
No matter which way you look at it, Intel has a major share of the
market, and is flexing its muscles trying to force other vendors out.
Where the line should be drawn is not as clear as with M$. Perhaps a
little reminder to play fair might not be such a bad idea, preventing
things from getting as far out of hand as they are with M$. Intel just
might listen where Gates never did.
