At 10:58 PM 6/5/1998 -0700, Kathy E. Gill so eloquently stated:

A monopoly is when a company uses unfair practices to shut out
the competition, i.e., as purported by DOJ against MS. It is not
a monopoly when a company has a choice and picks the best product
available. Keep in mind it has only been in the last year or so
that the performance of AMD and Cyrix was able to match that of
Intel. (the AMD K5 was terrible. K6 is equal to Pentium). All
of those companies listed have a choice and they chose Intel.

Your summary reminds me of that story about the scientist working
with the frog. He cut off one leg, and told the frog to jump,
and it did. He cut off a second and again said "Jump" and the
frog did. And again with the third leg. Then he cut off the
fourth leg, and said "Jump" and the frog laid there. Conclusion:
Cut off all four legs of a frog and they go deaf <g>

Just kidding Kathy.
