No, the point is that Visual Basic is not a language; it's a
program that processes a language. VB is a proprietary software
package, in that Microsoft owns it and has the sole and exclusive
right to manufacture and sell it.
Basic, the language, has existed since Bill Gates was in high
school. It is not proprietary, nor are most if not all other
programming languages. Anyone can write a software package
that processes it; in fact, anyone can write a software package
that does exactly the same things that Visual Basic does (though
they'd better use a "clean room" approach to avoid suspicion of
theft).
