You're making a distinction between the VB compiler and the language it
implements; this is fair enough. But you seem to imply that VB implements a
standard version of BASIC, which it clearly does not. In fact, so far as
I am aware, MS is the sole source for compilers for this particular
language. In my book, that makes VB a proprietary language.
